Are both on the same partition?
Do you launch both with the same user account, from the same place, from the same file manager?
Are there any differences how 5x and 6x are installed or used?

From where did you get that 6.7?
HOW did you get it?
The MD5 check sum for the file "ReNamer.exe" from "renamer.zip" (6.7; 29.03.2017) is
9508d03d884a83ff6c1fc780ff1e64f8 *ReNamer.exe
The check sum for the archive is
07f6399238df5101aae391d360aee6e0 *renamer-6.7_(29.03.2017).zip
If your download tool breaks the file, the check sum should be different.

Re: ReNamer does not start on Windows XP (DGAgent fault)

all versions that I downloaded from den4b site are in the same folder and each version under separate folder. Running as admin in windows explorer.
No difference between 5x and 6x, portable versions.
6.7 downloaded from the same den4b site.
Would be great to have some log files of renamer run.

You can do this with Process Monitor from Sysinternals.
https://technet.microsoft.com/de-de/sys … nitor.aspx

- be ready to QUICKLY launch ReNamer
- launch ProcMon
- start capture
- launch ReNamer
- stop Capture immediately
- go to the end of the list and look for ReNamer.exe
- right click ReNamer.exe and chose "Include 'ReNamer.Exe'", to filter out each other event.
- use File > Save...
- - - (o) Events using current filter
- - - Native ProcMon Format
- - - [OK]

Send that to Denis. (See ReNamer > Help > About > eMail address)

You can search (Ctrl+F) yourself that list f.ex. for 'denied'

There are some unusual log entries related to path "C:\Program Files\DGAgent". It pulls in a bunch of foreign modules and plugins. It appears to be a security solution named "Digital Guardian Agent". This may very well interfere with ReNamer, and even block it for some bizarre reason.

Are you aware that this software is running on your computer?

You could try starting Windows in Safe-Mode, to test if ReNamer will lunch, but there is no guarantee the DGAgent won't start in Safe-Mode as well.

Alternative is to remove DGAgent software.

This is just a hypothesis.

Re: ReNamer does not start on Windows XP (DGAgent fault)

it is very strange, I do not see any process like guardian running and there is no such path in program files, checked hidden as well.  Not in add/remove programs.
It might had been there installed long time ago, but not anymore.

Re: ReNamer does not start on Windows XP (DGAgent fault)

Nothing else stands out from your log, except for DGAgent entries which seem suspicious.

Have you tried rebooting into a Safe-Mode and then trying to lunch ReNamer?

Re: ReNamer does not start on Windows XP (DGAgent fault)

I'm afraid we are out of easy options.

It is pretty clear that the problem is in your operating system environment. Something prevents ReNamer from starting, either deliberately or accidentally (through misconfiguration or broken installation). A clean installation of Windows should defiantly fix it.

It is interesting to see if any other applications will exhibit the same behavior, e.g. Colors, Resizer, Hasher, etc?
