Rename multiple folders

Hi I'm trying to rename folders within a folder the structure is

E:\ospdata\01-jan-06\machine_xx\input_xx\09.00.00.000\audio.wav

I need to rename all instances of machine_xx to machine_yy but there are over 6,000,000 files within the ospdata folder and when I add the folder "ospdata" and subfolders as file the memory usage goes through the roof and the server hangs.

Is there a limit on the number of folders that can be processed/renamed?

Re: Rename multiple folders

I just tested a much smaller set of folders (6615 folders, 449817 folders) and it only took a few seconds to load them in
Memory usage grew by 2meg

Scaling that up - the memory usage should be about 24Meg ?

Check that you have the latest version and that in the settings, on the general tab - 'Default behaviour for adding folders' is set to 'Add folders as files'

That's all I can suggest off hand

[edit]
apart from
antivirus software - tryy turning it off temporarily, or excluding .wav from the files it checks

[edit2]
In the settings
preview tab - untick 'Resort table when files are added' and 'Validate new filenames on preview'
Meta tags tab - untick 'Meta tag support'

Re: Rename multiple folders

Hi chris,

No, there is no limit, apart from the top on the integer: 2,147,483,647 - don't go over that number, results will be unpredictable wink . The only thing you should be conserned about is the time, do take the steps advised by dloneranger, they will speed up the processing...

Good luck!
