Why in preview all new file names are displayed (not only applicable)

Assume I add 200 files from a folder as possible change objects.

Now I add a new replace filename rule which can be applied only to a subset of all
files (filenames). When I click now "preview" the new names are displayed.

However even all the files with unchanged filenames are listed in the new name column as well.

Why not only list in the new names column only those files whose file names
will be changed in a rename operation ? and leave all unchanged blank ?

Re: Why in preview all new file names are displayed (not only applicable)

You can highlight in red all the changed filenames. Find the Options button in the top-right corner of the files table. Click on the option "Highlight changed names", and after that, all changed names will be displayed in red color.

The idea behind showing the unchanged new name is that the rules are applied to the original name and the result will be the new name, but if no rules were applied to the original name then the new name will be the original name it-self, but not the empty one.

As far as I can see the red marking of changes is lost when I restart ReNamer.
Is there an option to remember this setting resp. to ALWAYS mark changes in red?

That is a behavior of some old versions. Try downloading the most recent one: v4.17 or v4.19 Beta.
