There several different things you can do to achieve it, but it's hard to say which fits best without knowing how exactly you are planning to rename those files. Can you provide some before and after examples?
Generally speaking, you can use EXIF date to file images hierarchically based on the individual components of date and time (day, hour, minute, etc).
You can change the default date-time format in the Settings to something like "yyyy-mm-dd\hh\nn\", basically, grouping images by date and then sub-grouping by hour and then by minute. Now you just have to insert EXIF date meta tag as a prefix to your file names. The directory structure is created automatically during a renaming operation.
So, if you have an image "image1234.jpg" taken on 2017-02-14 09:30:00, it will be renamed into directory "2017-02-14\09\30\image1234.jpg".
