I've only found this post now. I like the idea and I'm adding this to the list of suggested features.
For the reference, the suggestion originated here: Reset serialized number on change of date.

Option "Reset if file name changes" has been added to the Serialize rule in ReNamer v6.7.0.1 Beta.
