ReNamer does not start on Windows XP (DGAgent fault)

one valid reason for older versions- latest 6.7 version does not run on win XP, tried both portable and install. Requirements state it is supported on win 98 and later.
I uderstand win XP is outdated, but it is much faster and I use machine for some special tasks, not for browsing internet.

WinXP is still noted to be supported. What exactly does not work for you on XP and latest 6.7 version?

Older versions are still available till 'ReNamer ver 5.73', see this thread: >

Latest versions of ReNamer should definitely work on Windows XP.

In fact, I have just tested ReNamer 6.7 portable on a Windows XP and it works without any issues, as excepted.

Please describe what exactly does not work for you?

Re: ReNamer does not start on Windows XP (DGAgent fault)

it simply does not run, I click on exe, but nothing happens. I can see in process explorer, that it appears, but suddenly exits right away. I also have v5.50 on the same machine, which opens fine.
OS is win XP professional v2002 SP3, 3GB RAM.

Re: ReNamer does not start on Windows XP (DGAgent fault)

If you are running any debugger / reverse engineering tools, they might interfere with ReNamer's startup process. Latest development version contains changes which address these startup issues.

Please try the latest development version:

Re: ReNamer does not start on Windows XP (DGAgent fault)

Some Ideas to consider:

Do ReNamer need any runtimes, like perhaps more recent VC++ DLLs than available on older XP-SP3?

Do ReNamer need write access to the folder with the exe to write the INI?
In Vista and newer there is a silent redirection, but not on XP.

If not that, igoriss perhaps need to provide more background info about his environment.

I get next week access to XP to test that out more...

No run-time libraries required. That is true for all programs here.

Yes, but it shouldn't cause it to exit silently.

Perhaps some application is preventing ReNamer from starting.

Try starting Windows in Safe Mode.

Try disabling anti-virus.

Also, try running all portable versions from the Downloads page starting from the oldest version and up until you encounter a version that stops working for you.

- I just have a virtual machine with XP
- unpacked renamer.zip (v6.7)
- launched ReNamer.exe
- everything works fine

What ever 'igoriss' problem is, there is no issue with ReNamer per se,
may be a individual problem on his PC? Maybe he can check on another PC?
