Adding default filename if no EXIF date available?

Hi Folks,

I want to start off by saying that ReNamer is an excellent program - very powerful and fast.  Really good piece of work so a big thanks from moi.

I have a file renaming problem which I cannot solve.  I have searched previous posts and cannot find a similar post hence my posting
I am trying to rename 10 years of photos based on EXIF date. I have worked out the basic rules (i.e. Delete original filename, Add new filename based on EXIF date and and serialize duplicates)...eventually a new sample filename would look something like this

From:  IMG_003.JPG
To:  2004-09-06 12.41 PM.JPG

However, some photos do not have any EXIF data so I want/have to manually recreate a default filename, but using a rule, if no EXIF data exists.  For example, I am working in year 2004.  There are about 80 photos (of about 600) which don't have EXIF data.  Can ReNamer do something like the following?

If EXIF date is True Then Extract EXIF Date
Else
Filename = DefaultName(?)

where the default filename in this case is 2004, as I am working in 2004.

For example:

From:  Scan001.JPG
To:  2004(1).JPG

Can anyone shed some light on a possible solution?

Again, excellent program and a real time saver

Thanks
Tony

Re: Adding default filename if no EXIF date available?

Hi Tony and welcome.

I think you could make an test

- with some test files
- ADD rule (DELETE file name)
AND
- ADD rule (INSERT,  > Meta-Tag > exif date)

- then PREVIEW
- then sort "New Name"
- then rename those files without an exif date (empty new name) with your default name and serialize
- then remove them from the list

- then rename the others with exif date

? HTH ?
