0.) Try this with some test files in an test folder:
A:) for example "IMG_0796.JPG"
1.) Add an INSERT Rule
2.) At "What:[ ]" click on "Insert Meta Tag" and chose in your case EXIF_Date
3.) add an trailing backslash => :EXIF_Date:\ (this is the part to use sub-folders or create new folders within ReNamer)
4.) save rule
5.) preview
IF there is an date extracted from meta data,
this date will be used as folder name
and the files will be moved into this folder.
EXIF_Date give us f.ex.: 2002-06-08 21.48.39
B:) Preview: "2002-06-08 21.48.39\IMG_0796.JPG"
6.) Add an second Rule DELETE
7.) Delete from 11 , count 9 (that is " 21.48.39")
8.) save rule
9.) preview
C:) Preview: "2002-06-08\IMG_0796.JPG"
One may add even more rules to format the output ones more.
-------------------
I don't know how this extracted date is formatted?
Maybe you have to add an another rule to format this date to be an valid file name?EDIT:
i have just worried some images:
-- With EXIF_Date i get something like "2002-06-08 21.48.39\IMG_0796.JPG"
-- SO i add an another Rule above
