Remove phrases/characters from folder name

Hi everybody,

I want to remove certain characters from a lot of different folders. Each folder contains a file which has the same name as the folder. This file should not be modified.

I've added the folders and un-selected "Add files within folders" in the default settings. When I have a look at the preview everything is selected - the files and the folders. Is that correct or did I something wrong? How can I select the foldernames only?

I also like to remove more than only one character, e.g. Foldername.being.created.2008. How can I remove the dots?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Remove phrases/characters from folder name

Hi Kirschi, welcome.

>How can I select the foldernames only?

1) Press "Filter Settings"
"[  ] Add files within folders"
"[X] Add folders as files"
"[X] Include subfolders"
Click on [Save]

2) Press "Add Folders"
Chose your top main folder
Click on [Add Folders]

See also ReNamers help file:
"Using ReNamer > Placing files and folders in Renamer's work area > Adding items using the 'Add Folders' button" (The settings are described in Appendix-B)

Add rule REMOVE and type an dot into the remove field. Take a look on the settings at this dialog too.

See ReNamer help file: "Understanding the rules > Remove"

HTH? Is this what you look for?

Apart from what Stefan has said, I'd like to point a common mistake.

The filters are applied when you load the files into the list, but once the files are loaded, if you change the filters the file list is not updated, so you'll probably need to empty the list and reload the files/folders.

If this software has helped you, consider getting your pro version. :)

Re: Remove phrases/characters from folder name

Yes, that was the problem. The filters did not refresh when the folder was already in the list.

Anyway, all problems solved.

Thanks guys :-)

Re: Remove phrases/characters from folder name

I also have this problem, but adding the rules before adding folders to be renamed still does not
rename the folder.
I need to remove and replace characters in folder names.
I have done everything correct i think but the folders names don't change?
what could be wrong?
thanks

Re: Remove phrases/characters from folder name

Hi brucifer, welcome.

Please provide 2-3 real (or slightly modified for secure reason) full paths
and also what you want to do with them, like:
BEFORE:
x:\A\B\C
AFTER
x:\A\F\G

Then we can look how we would work this out, and you can see where you were wrong.
