Not able to create a directory for the license key

I have upgraded my Renamer to v7.2. I have uninstalled my earlier version of the application before installation of the new version. When applying the license key I got this message: "Not able to create a directory for the license key". I have done the following:

* installed the new version as administrator
* open the application as administrator
* updated the storage.ini with the right content (and yes, I have tested/echoed to verify if the path valid)

I still have to add the license key every time I open the application.

Can anyone help me in this case? I do not understand why the installation program do not establish the new directory as stated in the storage.ini.

Re: Not able to create a directory for the license key

Potential causes:

  • File system permissions are inadequate or corrupted.

  • Another application is blocking access, e.g. anti-virus.

Check permissions:

  1. Navigate to the documents folder in your user profile: %USERPROFILE%\Documents

  2. Right-click on the folder, open Properties, open Security tab.

  3. Does your user have full permissions?

Check Windows Defender settings:

  1. Click on the Windows Start symbol or Windows Search symbol and type "controlled folder access", click on the first match.

  2. You should see a setting for enabling/disabling the Controlled Folder Access feature. Is it enabled or disabled?

It is also worth trying the portable version of ReNamer, because it stores settings and presets in the same folder as the executable. Simply unpack it somewhere where you have a write access, e.g. Desktop.

You should not need to lunch ReNamer as an administrator, unless you wanted to rename system protected files.

Can you please share the full content of your Storage.ini file?

Re: Not able to create a directory for the license key

Hi Administrator.

Finally, this case is resolved. I had to disable a Windows Security feature (*).
When this was done, the Renamer 7.2 was installed normally and I was able to apply my license key at startup.
The Windows Security features was enabled after the installation.
The software application is now running as expected.

Thanks for the help.

Can you please clarify which exact feature you had to disable? Was it the Controlled Folder Access?

This information might help other users who find themselves in a similar situation.
