Feature Request: standby when audio isn't busy

Hello!

So, I'm using a pc as an audio server/player. The server part can be controlled nicely by utilizing shutter's network traffic monitor. But, as a player, it's a little hit 'n' miss. I was wondering if shutter could query a specified audio device and allow standby/shutdown only if it's not busy. That way, it could work with practically any audio player. What do you think?

Thanks!

Re: Feature Request: standby when audio isn't busy

It is a great idea! It has been on the feature request list for a number of years now, but without much traction unfortunately.

The originally considered "Loopback Recording" mechanism has some severe limitations, including:

1. It is device and driver dependant.
2. A client can enable loopback mode only for a shared-mode stream. Exclusive-mode streams cannot operate in loopback mode.

Additionally, it is technically very involved and will probably require a lot of maintenance.

However, recently, a different and much simpler mechanism has been identified which is based on monitoring peak audio meters for individual programs, as can be observed in the native Windows Volume Mixer.

So there is still hope to see this feature implemented some day.
