Folder Rename Limitations?

Using the gui I can remove '[def]' from a file name such as 'ABC[def]' so that the resulting file name is 'ABC'. The program does not do same for a folder name. It makes no change whatsoever.

Similarly, using the gui I can replace 'def' with 'ghi' in a file name such as 'ABC(def)' so that the resulting file name is 'ABC(ghi)'. The program does not do same for a folder name. It makes no change whatsoever.

what am I doing wrong?

Hi MourningStar, welcome.

You have to enable Filter settings "Add folders as files" then you can rename them.

ReNamer has several filter options which configure how added items (files and folders) are treated.
By default, folders are not added to the renaming list as items, instead, their contents are added to the renaming list.
To rename the folders themselves, open filter settings and enable option "Add folders as files".
Add folders as files
ReNamer treats folder just like a single filename (not as a container that holds files and subfolders).
So only the folder is loaded, and not the files in it. Useful for renaming the folder itself.

Thank you for your reply. I enabled the filter setting as you instructed. Unfortunately there is no change to my previous experience. I suspect brackets and parenthesis are the culprits because when I make a change to any part of the name 'outside' of these, it works.

I should add that I am basing this from the 'preview' display, I'm not actually cliking the 'rename' button.

fwiw, I'm using ReNamer Ver. 5.5 on Win7 Home Premium.

Could it be that in the name of that folders are dots in front of the parenthesis?
Because with folders a common problem is to have the "skip extension" active, this makes the part after the last dot avoid changes.

OOPS!!!
My bad (and my apologies). I do have dots before the area
of text I want to change. It is very common for me to use
and see European-style date that I did not see dots at first.
However, I cannot changing my filename structure. I must have
the dots. Is there plan to fix? -thank you

For ReNamer, "extension" is whatever comes after a last dot in the filename.

In your case, in filename "Miles Davis (1967.12.25) - Sorcerer (USA Columbia Vinyl)[16-44]" the extension will be ".25) - Sorcerer (USA Columbia Vinyl)[16-44]" because it after the last dot in the filename.

All you gotta do is untick the "skip extension" option in the rules.
