Renaming over a network

I have shared folders on my file server (e.g. \\file-server\folder\). If I rename files in a shared folder, Renamer will make new folders and put the files in them.
Renaming files in:

\\file-server\folder\

moves the files to the new location:

\\file-server\folder\file-server\folder\

The "validate new names" option also thinks the filenames are invalid.

Re: Renaming over a network

I never stated that windows network files were supported by ReNamer wink

Anyway, I made few adjustments, and it should work fine for network files as well.

Try it, and tell me how it goes, ok?  ReNamerBeta.zip

Should this have been in the Suggestion forum instead of Bugs?

Actually, it's good that you posted it in Bugs forum. That made me FIX the problem faster! tongue

Re: Renaming over a network

I will rename all files in my network-folder

\\Salf\austria\BüroIsmaning\*.*

If I klick "Add Folders"
I can not see my windows-network !!?

are there a possibility
to pick up my windows-path  \\Salf\austria\BüroIsmaning\  manually per copy / paste to "Add Folders" ?

Hi demokrates, welcome to the forum.

Work around:
First solution: you could just map your unc folder
Or you could drag&drop your "BüroIsmaning" -Folder into ReNamers "Drag your files here"-panel (check ReNamers Filter Settings too)

best
Stefan

Re: Renaming over a network

demokrates, this is not a bug.

"Add Folders" dialog is a custom built dialog, to provide legacy way of adding folders. It simply wasn't meant for showing network paths. One simple reason: it will dramatically slow down the performance of this dialog because it will have to search for network folders.

You can use other methods like Drag&Drop, Copy&Paste, CommandLine to add your network folders!
