Copy/Cut to clipboard logic

Hi Denis,

While editing the wiki I came across a problem that we have left unanswered:

The Shell menu in Files pane has two options: Copy to clipboard and cut to clipboard. But where is the counterpart command for pasting?

And how do you "go" to the destination folder in ReNamer?
It does not have a GUI part that shows the destination folder.

If we have to switch to the Windows explorer to paste the items on the clipboard, then what is the value addition by ReNamer?
I mean, we can as well do the whole operation in Explorer itself.

So something's missing in the working logic here...

Re: Copy/Cut to clipboard logic

Hi Narayan,

Paste option is the File main menu. It adds all files from the clipboard into ReNamer.

The Shell menu contains options for performing shell operations on the selected files. Copy to clipboard and Cut to clipboard will place all selected files into the clipboard, no matter how many different directories they are scattered across (you can't do that with Explorer).

Then, there are 2 possible uses:

  1. 3rd party application can retrieve that list of files from the clipboard (using paste or Win API).

  2. Paste all files into a singe destination folder (via Explorer), even when files are scattered across different directories.

I have included this description into the Wiki article: Shell submenu.

Re: Copy/Cut to clipboard logic

OK, so both routes are outside ReNamer, but the main value-add here is that ReNamer can collect the files from various paths (folders).

That's fine. I'll add that to the Menus for the Files pane page.

I have added a lot of links to the text also.

Thanks.
