I have decided to stop pursuing this feature. You can probably see why from my previous post.

I will suggest using tools dedicated for this kind of task, or possibly command line tools in combination with ReNamer. You can find some examples in Wiki which describe how to incorporate output from command line tools into ReNamer via PascalScript.
