Original photo timestamp (Date taken) in TIF file?

I'm experimenting with ReNamer 5.50, and it's working great for renaming photos stored as jpg-images (I extract EXIF_Date and use it in the photo name to be able to sort photos in order).  smile

My problem is with photos in tif format (the only ones I have are taken with a Nikon D200 if that makes a difference). When looking at the photo's properties (right click, properties, details) in Windows Vista, I see:
Origin - Date taken: 2009-08-21 16:11
File - Date created: 2009-11-15 14:34
File - Date modified: 2009-08-22 14:17

Using ReNamer, I can extract the following meta data:
:File_DateCreated: 2009-11-15 14.34.47
:File_DateModified: 2009-08-22 14.17.40
:EXIF_Date: 2009-08-22 15.17.35
:TIFF_Date: 2009-08-22 15.17.35

The information I would like to extract is the one Windows calls "Origin - Date taken". Is that possible?

I've also downloaded exiv2.exe. I haven't really studied it yet, but simply running "exiv2.exe photo202.tif" shows me only one timestamp:
Image timestamp : 2009:08:21 17:11:51

That actually looks like the information I'm looking for, except that it's one hour off (something to do with daylight savings, I guess).

In case you need access to the example photo, here it is:
http://www.myld.se/tmp/photo202.tif
I'm afraid this image is quite large, 30 MB, but I thought it best to leave it unchanged to make sure I don't accidentally change any meta information.

So again, is it possible to extract the "Date taken" information in ReNamer?

Re: Original photo timestamp (Date taken) in TIF file?

TIFF images are can be problematic sometimes. Cameras tend to deviate from standards and invent their own modifications to standard formats. ReNamer doesn't have support for all the TIFF images out there, but, as you already mentioned, you can incorporate output of Exiv2 into ReNamer via scripts.

Have a look here:

Re: Original photo timestamp (Date taken) in TIF file?

Love renamer, but have had a difficult time tracking down how to do EXACTLY what this poster was asking.  How to access "Date Taken"?

I understand TIFF is extensible, but what about AVI or even jpg?  for a jpg taken by my canon powershot SD900,  windows 7 shows no less than 4 dates.  the standard created, modified and accessed, and on the details tab I see "date taken" which does not match either of the others.  the three standard dates are actually around the date I downloaded the picture from the camera (directly from an SD card), but the date taken is the REAL date I'm looking for.

For AVI, it's "media created".

I'm surprised by the lack of detail I can find related to these attributes on a site related to an application in such a tight nitch as renamer.  these dates are critical to extract from files.

could you suggest a "cascading" script that tries to get some of the most specialized dates and falls back to the more general ones if not found?

It is possible to write such a script, but I don't have enough free time to do this unfortunately.
