ReNamer Future Releases Suggestions

As I said in the help section it's a great work that helps a lot.

I have some suggestions for you:

==============================================

1) Add leading zeros to existing numbers.

Old file names
pic2.jpg
pic35.jpg
pic4.jpg

New file names (The values of the numbers stay the same)
pic02.jpg
pic04.jpg
pic35.jpg

This example is from 1-4a-Rename that have this function (just check and specify the number of leading zeros).

==============================================

2) On the Add Folder dialog, it would be better if the filter settings checkbox where in the main (??)
dialog.
Add folders as files, skip root folders at least could be there.

==============================================

3) A rule to "prevent" duplicate names of folders.
When renaming a folder it can serialize (user sets the leading zeros and where - filename or extention) to not duplicate the folder name.

==============================================

Sorry if my english is not so good, but I realy loved it and I had to try to cooperate.

Thanks again.

Re: ReNamer Future Releases Suggestions

1) Replied to this question in your previous topic: Add leading zeros

2) In previous version, this was exactly the way it was done. But because I want to expand the Filter settings in future, first, I have to eliminate all redundancies (so everything is configured in one place). Late, I will add things like "add file/folders only if they match particular pattern", etc. I'm afraid this have to stay the way it is now.

3) Not sure what you mean... Can you explain in more details, maybe with examples? I suppose you are talking about renaming folders, but where do your leading zeros come in there?? Also, have a look at the "Serialize Duplicates" script from within PascaScript rule, it might be able to help you...

I'll try to make myself clear.

Yes, it's about folders

For Exemple:
autonrfolder_001.jpg

Rule:
autonrfolder_002.jpg

Results:
autonrfolder_003.jpg

Rule:
autonrfolder_004.jpg

Results:
autonrfolder_005.jpg

I forgot about Starting number and others options tongue

Is it possible?

Thanks.

Re: ReNamer Future Releases Suggestions

There are scripts (for PascalScript rule) which do a very similar job.

Check out few things:
1) "Serialize duplicates" script within PascalScript;
2) Topic rename the same filename but different extension;

Perhaps I could modify one of those scripts a bit to suite your format, would that help?

There is only 1 problem, due to current architecture and the way in which rules are processed/applied, it is impossible to serialize the very first occurrence of a duplicated name, but only the consequent occurrences, for example:
Folder
Folder.002
Folder.003
Folder.004

This is because files are processed one by one, and each rule can only know/remember the files which occurred previously.

Re: ReNamer Future Releases Suggestions

OHHHHH.. I think I found a solution which will require NO modifications of the program!

1) Add all of your files/folder to renamer;
2) Set the rules and press Preview (and possibly Rename);
3) Files/folders that are duplicated will be marked with a warning sign;
4) Right-click on the table "Clearing" -> "Clear Valid" or "Clear Successful" (if you Renamed)
5) Now you are left only with the duplicated files/folders;
6) Use SERIALIZE rule to add number sequences in any format you want!!

That will work 100% sure without any scripts! big_smile
