I just guess for all this rules the default "[X] skip extension" is set?
If yes, then you have told ReNamer to skip all behind the last dot (because this is taken as extension)
And an folder name is nothing more then an files name but with an attribute 'D' set.

Yes, it is. Ok, the problem is the program doesn't distinguish between folder names and file names in this case.
I will try to avoid such names.
