The workflow in ReNamer is a simple 4-step process:

  1. Add files or folders for renaming.
  2. Add renaming rules.
  3. Preview new names.
  4. Rename.

Step 1: Add files

Select the files from various folders and add them to the working area.

  1. Adjust filter settings for adding files and folders (optional step).
  2. Add individually selected files (Add Files), or all files in selected folders (Add Folders), or...
  3. Drag-n-drop files from Windows Explorer (or any other application) into the ReNamer window.

Step 2: Add rules

Add rules to create a sequence of operations. Delete or edit an existing rule. Change the order of the rules.

  1. Allows addition and deletion of rules. Also change the order of any rule in the stack.
  2. Click in this area to add a rule (or to edit an existing rule, or just move it to a new position in the list).

Step 3: Preview

Preview the results (check before proceeding with the actual renaming).

  1. Set options (e.g. highlight changed names, experiment with your own text, resolve conflicts, etc.).
  2. Click to see preview of the new file names in the bottom pane (not required in auto-preview mode).

Step 4: Rename

Press this button to rename files and folders, by applying new names.
