Renaming files

How the renaming process works
When the Rename button is pressed, 
the following happens:
Themarked filesare renamed according to theNameandNew Namecolumns (orPathandNew Pathif changes affect the full path) in theFilespane.If some of the rules do notallseemmarkedto have applied, the reason could be that the ReNamer is inManual Previewmode and you did not refresh the preview after adding/editing some of the rules. To update the preview, press the
button again.If your set of rules is not meant to move files from one folder to another, you can as well assume thatfiles are renamed according to the Name and New Name columnsofin the Files pane.pane.The
After renaming:
- The Name column is updated to reflect the new filename.
- The New Name column
now contains the new name of the item, and TheNew Namecolumn becomes emptyItissupposedcleared,to show a preview of theproposednew name, so once the file is renamedsince there is nonewlonger a proposed nameany more.

WhenRenaming is a file considered successfully renamedoutcomes
Each renamingfile operationin canthe Files pane will have one of the following outcomes:outcomes after a rename:
- Renamed:
AThe filename thatwaschangedsuccessfullyduringrenamedthetorenamingaoperation.new name. RenamedUnchanged:AThe new name was identical to the original, so no change was applied. The operation is still considered successful.- Skipped: The file
namewas unmarked and excluded from the operation entirely. - Failed: An error prevented the file from being renamed. See Failed renaming for common causes and how to resolve them.
Note that dideven notan changeUnchanged becauseoutcome nonecan fail, for example if the source file no longer exists at its original path.
Undoing a rename
The most recent renaming operation can be reversed using Undo Renaming from the File menu, or by pressing Shift+Ctrl+Z. This restores the original filenames using the stored previous names, which are also visible in the Old Path column of the renamingFiles rulespane.
Post-rename applicable.
YouSeveral automatic actions can setbe ReNamer's Program settingsconfigured to takerun someafter conditionala actionssuccessful on the files based on their outcome.rename. For example, you can clear off the files that were successfullyrenamed renamed.
Note:be Whencleared from the newFiles namepane ofautomatically, or the file is the same as the original name the renaming operation is still performed, but without any changes applied. It is important to note that such renaming operationapplication can stillclose. These options are available in failRename settings, for example, because the original file no longer exists..
