How the renaming process works

When the RenameButton.pngRename button is pressed, the following happens:

  1. The marked files are renamed according to the Name and New Name columns (or Path and New Path if changes affect the full path) in the Files pane.
    • If some of the rules do notall seemmarked to have applied, the reason could be that the ReNamer is in Manual Preview mode and you did not refresh the preview after adding/editing some of the rules. To update the preview, press the PreviewButton.png button again.
    • If your set of rules is not meant to move files from one folder to another, you can as well assume that files are renamed according to the Name and New Name columns ofin the Files pane. pane.
    • The
New Path column, when visible, reflects the full destination path derived from combining the original folder path with the new name.

    After renaming:

    • The Name column is updated to reflect the new filename.
    • The New Name column now contains the new name of the item, and
    • The New Name column becomes empty
      • It is supposedcleared, to show a preview of the proposed new name, so once the file is renamedsince there is no newlonger a proposed name any more.
